It&#8217;s beautiful and it stings a little. Exactly how it should be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gs9wYQyzz1Y?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kicking In Doors<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>&#8216;Boys Cry Too&#8217;<\/strong>, frontman <strong>Joachim Liebens<\/strong> doesn&#8217;t so much evolve as detonate. Where <strong>&#8216;Dawn Of The Freak&#8217;<\/strong> trafficked in fragile, childlike textures, the new record charges in with something far more confrontational \u2014 distortion rubbing up against intimacy, fragile melodies sitting right next to genuine aggression. The album opens with the towering eight-minute <em>in my head<\/em> and closes on the haunting <em>ghost girl<\/em>, and there&#8217;s barely a moment in between where Liebens isn&#8217;t pushing harder than before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>I was a kid on <strong>&#8216;Dawn Of The Freak&#8217;<\/strong>,<\/em>&#8221; he reflects. &#8220;<em>It sounds almost like nursery rhymes to me \u2014 everything is so fragile and childlike, like a cry for attention.&#8221;<\/em> Then, with what we can only imagine is a very satisfying grin: <strong>&#8220;<em>And now I&#8217;m angsty and kicking in doors.<\/em>&#8220;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That energy is all over the record. <em>murder me<\/em> goes full goth-grunge thrash. The instrumental <em>falling to pieces<\/em> is described as ground-zero annihilation. And then there&#8217;s the New Order-ish propulsion of <em>i hear voices<\/em>, which hits like a shot of dopamine. The shadowy <em>castlevania<\/em>, meanwhile, is Liebens&#8217; own &#8220;<em>perfect triangle of Nirvana, Alice In Chains and My Bloody Valentine&#8217;s <strong>&#8216;Loveless&#8217;<\/strong>.<\/em>&#8221; That&#8217;s a bold claim. It also sounds exactly right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Vulnerable Side of the Noise<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For all its squall and fury, <strong>&#8216;Boys Cry Too&#8217;<\/strong> has a deeply emotional throughline baked right into its title. Liebens describes the album as a two-act emotional arc: the first half is all walls up, paranoia, aggression \u2014 the face boys show the world when they&#8217;re hurting. The second half tears that down completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>I want to show the vulnerable part of men and boys and celebrate it instead of making it this whole stigma that&#8217;s been going on for so long,<\/em>&#8221; he says. It&#8217;s a statement of intent as much as a record \u2014 and one that feels genuinely earned rather than just a talking point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sonically, the shift from <strong>&#8216;Dawn Of The Freak&#8217;<\/strong> is marked: live drums and guitar take center stage this time around, trading the earlier album&#8217;s sun-bleached synth layers for something more raw and physical. And in a fun twist, Liebens says his biggest reference points during the writing process weren&#8217;t rock acts at all \u2014 he was deep in hip-hop, with emo-rap outlier <strong>Lil Peep<\/strong> cited as a key influence on how he approached lyrics. Less resolution, more gut-punch.
