More about Johnny Mafia
Hailing from Sens, in the countryside of Burgundy, France, Johnny Mafia have played a major part in the recent explosion of the French indie rock scene, alongside other high-energy, explosive acts such as Jc Satan, Th Da Freak, Cathedrale or The Psychotic Monks. With two highly acclaimed albums, inspired by classics like The Ramones or The Pixies as well as more contemporary acts such as Wavves, and over 250 shows across Europe, including some of France’s biggest festivals, Johnny Mafia have established themselves as a front-runner in the ever-growing current French scene.
After recording and mastering their sophomore album with producer Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, the Fleshtones, The Sonics), the band turned to local french producer Kris Banel, who recorded countless excellent Frenck punk rock albums, to record their third album, ‘Sentimental,’ in the summer of 2020. This new record features 13 deeply catchy and furious tracks, with infectious choruses, that show a surprising pop sensibility, hidden behind walls of guitars reminiscent of a time when MTV was still a cool thing. ‘Sentimental’ is an uninhibited, thrilling indie rock album, an instant classic, the likes of which don’t come out every day in France.
