From the upcoming album ‘Electric War,’ out April 18, 2025 on Easy Eye Sound
Get ready to slip into a groove: Little Barrie & Malcolm Catto have just dropped Spektator, the third taste of their eagerly awaited album ‘Electric War’. This mesmerizing track weaves Barrie Cadogan’s smooth, understated vocals and guitar licks through Malcolm Catto’s inventive tempo shifts, Lewis Wharton’s deep-pocket bass, and Raven Bush’s eerie violin—courtesy of The Heliocentrics collective. And if that weren’t enough, the kaleidoscopic video, shot at Nashville’s Easy Eye Sound by Twin Lantern and directed by Robert Schober (whose credits include The Killers and Green Day), adds a swirl of colour and intrigue to the sonic journey.
Hot on the heels of their U.K. headline run in April, Barrie Cadogan is gearing up to join The Black Keys as an additional guitarist on their North American tour this August and September—adding another notch to his already legendary résumé.
Spektator follows the album’s title track and lead single Zero Sun, rounding out the preview of ‘Electric War’. Produced by Catto and Little Barrie themselves, the album is a fearless plunge into uncharted musical territory. Across eight tracks, you’ll find a heady blend of ’60s British blues, deep funk grooves, jazz explorations, and fuzzy, atmospheric rock. “We simply follow what feels exciting, no genre rules,” Catto explains. Cadogan adds, “Slowing down or dialing back the volume can pack just as much punch as a wall of sound—sometimes more.”
Why ‘Electric War’ matters
Over two decades, Little Barrie have quietly built a reputation as one of the U.K.’s most resilient bands, fusing blues, funk, hip‑hop, and rock ’n’ roll into a unique sonic stew. Cadogan’s guitar work has scored everything from Better Call Saul to Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, and he’s been the go‑to sideman for icons like Primal Scream, Liam Gallagher, Johnny Marr, Paul Weller, Morrissey, and Dan Auerbach. Catto, a pillar of the U.K. underground funk and psych-jazz scenes, brought his masterful drumming and production chops to The Heliocentrics before joining Little Barrie in 2017.
‘Electric War’ is their first release on Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound label, and it proves that the creative chemistry between Cadogan, Wharton, and Catto is unstoppable. “Playing these songs live showed us we don’t need to follow traditional song structures,” Wharton says. “We just chase whatever sounds fresh and exciting.”
