Lunar Lemur to release new album ‘Meat Blob Groove Machine’

Meat Blob Groove Machine cover Lunar Lemur

‘Meat Blob Groove Machine’ (out April 14, 2017) is the third album in less than a year by mysterious Canadian experimental electronic composer, Lunar Lemur. After the quiet ambience of ‘Punching Clouds,’ the Lemur is back in territory closer to the progressively structured, beat-heavy melting pot of its (preferred pronoun) debut, ‘The Indiscrete Art of Ass Puppetry’. The sound pallet is paradoxically stranger yet more familiar, mixing epic orchestral arrangements with fractured grooves, psychedelic synth textures, and an assortment of nebulous sounds creating bizarrely catchy melodies and dense harmonies. Take a listen to Are You the Toilet Ghost?, which is lifted from ‘Meat Blob Groove Machine’.

Allegedly, reclusive autistic Icelandic artist Godtroende Kjøtt Drakt was commissioned by Lunar Lemur to create the artwork for each track on the album (including the cover) but there is no mention of such a person online. The Lemur works in mysterious ways.

Lunar Lemur has released a song a week for an entire year now, and will continue to do so for the rest of 2017, at least. The next album, ‘Gas Sculptures,’ is already scheduled for release this summer and switches gears back to the ambient end of the sound spectrum.
