Mauno have released their ‘Tuning’ LP via Idee Fixe and Tin Angel. The album, which has received attention from outlets like FADER, Stereogum, GoldFlakePaint and DIY, is their second full length, and to mark its release the band are sharing the video for the album’s single Other Bad. The video was directed by Hallie Switzer and features Mauno’s Eliza Niemi cycling through the Halifax suburbs before encountering a group of dancers whose movements mirror the songs angular
instrumental interplay.
Of the song Niemi said: “Musically, ‘Other Bad’ is a string of disjointed conversations with multiple instruments, all talking at once, silencing one another, then rushing back in to blurt out what they’re trying to say. None of these conversations go anywhere — ‘Other Bad’ never gives you what you want. It builds and hints and foreshadows — instruments emulate ticking clocks — yet the satisfying, fully resolved climax is never realized. The clocks tick down to a person falling, out of control, back where they started.”
Mauno’s Tuning is due out October 13th on Idee Fixe (NA) & Tin Angel (RoW). It’s available for preorder here.
