mclusky are back, loud and unapologetic: New album + a bonkers new video

After nearly two decades of being one of post-punk’s sharpest, noisiest, and most gloriously sarcastic bands, mclusky have crashed back onto the scene with ‘the world is still here and so are we,’ their first album since the early 2000s. And if you thought time would mellow them out… you clearly don’t know mclusky.

The album dropped via Ipecac Recordings and, in true mclusky fashion, it’s a weird, raucous, riff-heavy riot. Think: sardonic humour, explosive energy, and enough angular guitar to slice through steel. Critics are loving it—NPR calls it “progressive, weird, snotty post-punk bursting with creativity,” and Pitchfork says the band still sounds just as noisy (and unhinged) as ever. Yes please.

New Video Drop: “autofocus on the prime directive”

The band unveiled a new video for the album standout autofocus on the prime directive, once again teaming up with director Remy Lamont—whose visuals seem to match mclusky’s manic energy note for note. The clip is surreal, disjointed, a little bit genius, and exactly what you’d expect from a band whose frontman once described the track as:

A series of patently untrue statements set to music by a man who can barely dress himself.” – Andrew Falkous

Watch it here: http://mclusky.lnk.to/autofocus

(It’s not a Star Trek reference. But if it was, Falkous says, “I hope you’d understand.”)

A Quick Refresher: Who the Hell Are mclusky?

Formed in late ‘90s Cardiff, mclusky quickly became underground legends thanks to their brutal live shows and razor-sharp lyrics. They released three blistering records—‘my pain and sadness is more sad and painful than yours,’ ‘mclusky do dallas,’ and ‘the difference between me and you is that I’m not on fire’—before calling it quits in 2005.

They reformed in 2019, picked up right where they left off, and in 2025 gave us ‘the world is still here and so are we’. The lineup is Andrew Falkous (guitar, vocals), Damien Sayell (bass, vocals), and Jack Egglestone (drums, vocals, percussion).

They’re older now. Maybe wiser. Definitely still loud.
