M(h)aol is back with an all-new single and video, I Miss My Dog, and they’re not holding anything back. Alongside this heartfelt release, the band is gearing up to drop their new album, ‘Something Soft,’ on May 16 via Merge Records – a record that promises to be as raw and exciting as its title suggests.

They’re also hitting the road with fresh headline dates across the UK, so get ready to experience their inimitable live energy. Critics are raving: NME praises them for blending gritty post-punk with political insight and fun, while Rolling Stone calls the sound “bracing, unsettling, and powerful.” The Guardian describes it as “vulnerable, triumphant, and cathartic in equal measure,” and Alternative Press insists you need to have them on your radar immediately. Bandcamp adds that their new album delivers catharsis wrapped in an unexpected softness, and Post-Trash compares their music to a life-saving stent, breathing new energy into the scene.

The video for I Miss My Dog is a moving tribute to all the furry friends who’ve left paw prints on our hearts. It features a collage of fan-submitted clips of their pets, making it a truly communal celebration of love and loss. As Constance Keane shares, the song is a personal nod to her own experience with the loss of her dog, Poppy – a reminder that the bond we share with our pets is both powerful and unforgettable.

On top of the new album and video, M(h)aol are bringing their signature intensity to the live stage. They’re set to light up the UK with headline shows this September and will kick things off with an exclusive in-store performance at Rough Trade East in London on May 20. They’re also hitting the road in Ireland with Cola and Junk Drawer from May 28 to June 6. With a history of electrifying live shows – from a standout set at SXSW 2023 to a string of critically acclaimed releases – the band is known for creating a vibe that’s both intimate and anthemic.

‘Something Soft’ is more than just music; it’s an unapologetic expression of intersectional feminism, animal welfare, a critique of consumerism, and a search for empathy in a challenging world. With a sound that’s urgent and raw, the album weaves together the personal and the political. Constance Keane’s vocals, intertwined with her dynamic drumming, create a unique narrative that feels both like an inner monologue and a rallying cry against green room misogyny.

Produced with the expertise of Jamie Hyland – whose work includes collaborations with Gilla Band and The Psychotic Monks – and featuring Sarah Deegan from Pixie Cut Rhythm Orchestra on bass, ‘Something Soft’ is the most technically refined M(h)aol recording yet. Recorded at Dublin’s Ailfionn Studio, the album captures the band’s roguish charm and transforms personal stories into powerful, universal anthems.

M(h)aol’s DIY spirit shines through in every aspect of their work. Their previous releases, ‘Attachment Styles’ and the ‘Gender Studies’ EP, were originally issued on TULLE, a women-led independent label committed to amplifying underrepresented voices in music.
