MOJO hypes up Silent Golden by noting, “Electricity hums within locked grooves to bare-wire energy, sometimes in the same song. Clinic fans will dig this.”

A Creative Journey in Sound

Recorded across Montreal, Abilene, and Austin, Texas, the new album—titled ‘MIIEN’ and out on April 18th via Fuzz Club—marks a bold evolution for the band. This project brings together members of The Black Angels, Elephant Stone, The Earlies, and Golden Dawn Arkestra, blending diverse influences into a mesmerizing sonic experience.

The band’s lineup includes:

  • Alex Maas (The Black Angels) – vocals, bass, guitar
  • Rishi Dhir (Elephant Stone) – bass, guitar, keyboards
  • John Mark Lapham (The Earlies) – keyboards, samples, programming
  • Robb Kidd (Golden Dawn Arkestra) – drums

Silent Golden has a special backstory—it started as an instrumental demo by former member Tom Furse (The Horrors) and evolved with the addition of thunderous drums, a groovy bassline, sweet vocals, and even Thor Harris’s signature clarinet and percussion.

A Legacy of Collaboration

MIEN’s story began in 2004 when Rishi Dhir met Alex Maas at SXSW, sparking a creative partnership that would soon include John Mark Lapham and later, Robb Kidd. Their collaborative spirit shines through every track on ‘MIIEN,’ where spontaneous ideas evolve into intricate, layered compositions. Recording sessions, including a memorable stint in Austin during South by Southwest, infused the album with a raw, organic energy.

The album’s tracks blend the magic of ’60s psychedelia with modern sonic experimentation. From the eerie charm of Alex Maas’s vocals to the inventive production by John Mark Lapham, every song is a testament to the band’s fearless creative process.
