YACHT describes their track Dystopia (The Earth is on Fire) as a “post-apocalyptic fight song” and a “cautionary tale.” The track’s chant-along melodies and unsparing synths move listeners closer to dance than despair. The two new remixes of the Portland duo’s song, from their 2011 album ‘Shangri-La,’ will definitely bring the same reaction. For the remixes, production duo Justin Strauss and Bryan Mette (aka Whatever/Whatever), completely rework the sound of Dystopia on their version, recreating it with a heathy portion of funk. On the b-side, UK-based Emperor Machine start their Dystopia remix with a spaced out, dubby feel – every vocal echoing almost infinitely – and then flips into an updated disco sound.
Take a listen to the Emperor Machine remix below.
