NXNE 2015 kicks off tomorrow and here’s our list of picks for Day 1 (June 17). Get out there and watch some live music.

Etiquette 8 pm @ Danforth Music Hall
Graham Walsh and Julie Fader are partners whose collective resumes unite Canada’s myriad of musical communities and the generations between them. With credits under their own names; involvement in electro-punks Holy Fuck; contributions to Sarah Harmer, Chad VanGaalen, Blue Rodeo, and Great Lake Swimmers; and Walsh’s production efforts for a who’s-who of “we told you they would be big” (see: METZ, Viet Cong, and Alvvays).

Twist 9 pm @ The Garrison
Twist is the name of Laura Hermiston’s unique and undeniably arresting music project that’s been evolving and taking shape over the past two years. We saw her last year and loved what she was doing – so, don’t miss this one.

Programm 10 pm @ Lee’s Palace
The band collected influences from all over the spectrum, with stops in drone, electronic minimalism, and eastern progressions, refining each sonic detail and enabling each others’ intense perfectionism in the process. Programm discovered and refined their hybrid electronic rock sound as they wrote, rewrote, recorded, and rerecorded.

Moon King 11 pm @ Horseshoe Tavern
Toronto shoegazers Moon King unleashed their long-awaited debut to the world earlier this year with the release of ‘Secret Life’. The project of longtime friends and collaborators Daniel Woodhead and Maddy Wilde, it’s rich in dreamy harmonies and comes well presented in their ecstatic live performances.

DOOMSQUAD 11 pm @ Lee’s Palace
Three siblings make up DOOMSQUAD, the Toronto-based art project between Trevor, Jaclyn, and Allie Blumas. Creating experimental dance music heavily indebted to trance and psychedelia, the band go far-reaching in their global beats and keep things close at home to the sounds of their local community, too.

Zola Jesus 12 pm @ Lee’s Palace
Nika Roza Danilova possesses a remarkably big voice with a haunting delivery. It’s something that has earned the artist comparisons to the likes of Kate Bush and Florence Welch, while her live presence has rewarded additional Karen O resemblances.
