Produced by YOUTH—renowned for his work with Killing Joke, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Pink Floyd, and Paul McCartney—Swoon is a hypnotic introduction to Silver Shade. Recorded at Youth’s studio in Spain, the album marks Murphy’s second collaboration with the producer since 2014’s Lion. As Murphy himself attests, Silver Shade is “as powerful as any of my work to date.”
Murphy’s storied solo career began in 1986 with ‘Should The World Fail To Fall Apart,’ and since then, he has released nine albums featuring iconic singles like All Night Long, Indigo Eyes, Cuts You Up, Strange Kind of Love, and The Scarlet Thing In You.
Of course, before his solo rise, Murphy made his mark as the enigmatic frontman of Bauhaus, the pioneering post-punk band behind legendary tracks like Bela Lugosi’s Dead, She’s In Parties, and Silent Hedges. Though Bauhaus disbanded in 1983 (with a few reunions since then), their influence remains undeniable, with sporadic reunions reigniting their legacy over the years.
With Swoon, Murphy continues his ever-evolving artistic journey, blending poetic lyricism with entrancing soundscapes.
Swoon is out now via Metropolis Records. ‘Silver Shade,’ produced by Youth, arrives May 9, 2025.
Swoon – Lyrics
I just walked into the room
I talked to the water loom
I thanked it for the room
I lit up in a swoon
Preachers up to taste the fruit
I ask sleepers for a route
I am whoever who
What else can I do?
Swoon (Repeat)
Blessing randomly with Lars
I saw your look just heal the scars
Wet my feet in the mirror moat
I watched a preacher lick his wounds
I’ll go sit with the lions soon
I’ll throw people at the sky
Go sit with the lions soon
What else can I do?
Swoon (Repeat)
We deserve to taste the fruit
I ask sleepers for the route
I am whoever who
What else can I do?
Swoon (Repeat)
