Praise for The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND:
“It’s clear that PUP are still trading in the same brutally pissed off but unassailably catchy blasts of self-loathing. And, yes, it’s still as much fun as ever.” – NME
“Few bands do self-deprecation and self-doubt like poppy Toronto noise-punks PUP.” – Kerrang!
“Glorious breakdowns and anthemic singalong opportunities.” – DIY
“This is the PUP record the world always needed.” – UPSET
“The most polished chronicle of their mental breakdown yet.” – Dork
“Everything punk should be in 2022.” – Clash (9/10)
“Totally unhinged.” – The Line Of Best Fit
Toronto’s own punk heroes—Stefan Babcock, Nestor Chumak, Zack Mykula, and Steve Sladkowski—are back, and they’re louder and prouder than ever. After teasing us with tracks like Hallways and Paranoid, they now deliver the scorching Get Dumber. With Jeff Rosenstock chiming in, his off-the-cuff vocals and playful “ahhhh, lyrics” moment lend the track an irreverent charm that’s pure PUP.
Behind the Song:
Stefan Babcock recalls, “I wrote Get Dumber in Jeff’s basement while house sitting for him. I recorded the first demo on his guitar using his mics and computer. When Jeff joined in, we recorded together in the same room—one take had him slip up and blurt out ‘ahhhhhh, lyrics,’ which cracked us all up. We eventually embraced that goofy moment, and it became a perfect fit for the song’s title.”
PUP is also gearing up to hit the road this autumn on a co-headline tour with Jeff Rosenstock—aptly named “PUP + JEFF ROSENSTOCK PRESENT: A CATACLYSMIC bRAPTURE OF FRIENDSHIPNESS.” Check out the full tour dates on their website.
About the New Album:
‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’ is PUP’s fifth LP—a no-frills, hard-hitting record forged in three intense weeks in Los Angeles with producer John Congleton. It channels the explosive spirit of their early days but with a level of musicianship that only comes with experience. Over 12 tracks, Stefan Babcock explores his life’s ups and downs—relationships, self-doubt, and the messy beauty of growing up.
This album is a journey through introspection and catharsis, capturing everything from the rawness of past mistakes to the hopeful glimmers of acceptance. Babcock reflects, “I started writing during a really tough time, and the title ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’ came out as a darkly funny note at the top of the page. Sometimes, laughing at yourself is the only way out.”

Recording the album felt refreshingly fun for the band. With less bickering and more genuine jamming, they rediscovered the pure joy of making music together. “We were less precious with everything this time—it felt like we were back to that first, thrilling moment of being in a band,” says Babcock.
