Get ready, America—Stereo MC’s are back! The legendary hip-hop and electronic dance pioneers have just announced a string of U.S. dates leading up to their highly anticipated performance at Cruel World Festival on May 17th.
Earlier this year, the band made a triumphant return to the States for their first U.S. shows since 2001, rocking the East Coast and even stopping by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for a must-see performance of their classic hit Connected. If you missed it, you can watch it via YouTube below.
Now, they’re heading west, bringing their signature sound to U.S. fans. Expect a high-energy set featuring favourites like Connected, Step It Up, Elevate My Mind, Lost In Music, and more—spanning an impressive seven studio albums.
A Legacy of Innovation & Influence
Formed in the mid-’80s by childhood friends Rob Birch (Rob B) and Nick Hallam, Stereo MC’s broke boundaries by blending hip-hop, funk, and electronic music into something entirely fresh. They started out pressing their own records on Gee Street Records, their independent label, before catching the attention of 4th & Broadway and later, Island Records.
Their breakthrough came in 1992 with Connected—an album that hit number two on the UK charts and produced anthems like Step It Up, Creation, and Ground Level. That success earned them two Brit Awards for Best Group and Best Album, solidifying their status as pioneers of live dance music.
Through the years, Stereo MC’s have shared the stage with icons like De La Soul, Living Colour, Happy Mondays, and Jane’s Addiction. They’ve also been sought-after remixers, lending their signature touch to tracks by U2, Madonna, Tricky, RZA, and Queen Latifah.
Now, nearly 40 years into their career, they’re still pushing boundaries—both with their own music and through their label Connected, a driving force in the Afro House scene. Recent collaborations with Adam Port, Keinemusik, and Stil Vor Talent prove they’re as relevant as ever.
