Today,Young Galaxy released their new single New Summer from their upcoming album “Ultramarine” due out via Paper Bag Records on April 23rd. The New Summer single comes with a “b-side” remix from Montreal’s Doldrums who spins it into weirdo, dancey territory as only he could…and we love it! Continue reading →
Young Galaxy have announced details of their fourth LP, “Ultramarine”, which will be released via Paper Bag Records on April 23rd. The album was made with electronic producer Dan Lissvik in Gothenburg, Sweden, at Lissvik’s studio which was very different from the recording of 2011′s Shapeshifting; this time the band stood in a room with Lissvik, playing their instruments and every song was sung by co-founder Catherine McCandless. Watch a teaser for the album below via YouTube.
“In being away from home we felt like we could risk more,” McCandless says. “Take bigger chances. Things we didn’t think would work, we tried anyway.”
According to the label, “Ultramarine” is more direct than previous Young Galaxy records have been, with songs of azure longing, Young Galaxy haven’t lost their other aspect: a willfulness, a purposeful independence, and a sense of darkness, unilluminated. As lighthearted as “Ultramarine” can be – as much as you can dance to it – there is also something elemental, something underneath.

CFCF have announced the North American release date and information about their new ‘Exercises’ EP on April 24th via Paper Bag Records. ‘Exercises’ shows another step in CFCF’s artistic growth with a collection of piano and synth based compositions. Influenced by artists like Philip Glass, Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Borden, and also institutional architecture and 70′s Canadiana.
Although this is a different direction for CFCF, it remains as cinematic and haunting as his 2009 debut album ‘Continent’. The EP will be available as limited edition 180 gram vinyl (+ CD included) and for digital download starting April 24th through the Paper Bag Records online store.
