The Big Ship sign to Fire Talk + share new track ‘The Boathouse Story’

The Big Ship

Doug Kaplan and Aeron Small make music together as The Big Ship, and they’ve now signed to Fire Talk. Collaborating between Chicago where Doug runs the Hausu Mountain label and Philadelphia where Aeron attends Medical School, the two have maintained a creative relationship that has been blooming since their early childhood. The music borrows from ambient/drone, jam rock, American roots music and kraut-rock. ‘Searchlight Casting’ is the duo’s realization of a mountain of laid back ideas distilled into one bright and lonesome release – perfect for those winter chills. ‘Searchlight Casting’ is due out January 8, 2016 via Fire Talk. Take a listen to The Boathouse Story via Soundcloud below, which is lifted from ‘Searchlight Casting’.

More about The Big Ship? Doug and Aeron met at summer camp at a young age and have been best friends, musical collaborators and sometimes roommates ever since. Now living miles apart, the workflow has evolved sharing ideas over the wires and fleshing them out when the two find themselves in the same place. For live performances and select album compositions, The Big Ship expands into a five-piece ensemble featuring Aeron (guitar), Doug (guitar), Max Allison (bass, tapes), Matt Baer (guitar), and Stephen Waller (drums).
