Reflecting on their storied past, it’s been over three decades since Anton Newcombe and his band unleashed their debut single, She Made Me / Evergreen, in 1992. At a time when the music scene was all about jumping on the major label bandwagon, Newcombe made a bold statement by choosing his own, unpredictable path. He famously decided that saying “no” was the key to staying true to his artistic vision, a sentiment that resonates deeply through every chord and lyric of the band.
Much of Newcombe’s rebellious spirit was captured in the groundbreaking documentary ‘Dig!,’ now celebrated as one of rock’s most compelling stories, with a remastered version marking its 20th anniversary. Since the debut album ‘Methodrone’ in 1995, countless musicians have joined Newcombe on his sonic journey, but he’s remained the constant creative force driving the band’s evolution. With more than 20 albums exploring realms from psychedelic rock and country-blues to fierce noise-pop, every release is a fresh expedition into the outer edges of rock ‘n’ roll.
Anton Newcombe’s relentless approach to music – a fearless dive into the unknown, embracing every creative challenge head-on – has solidified his reputation as a revolutionary force in the underground scene. Whether he’s strumming his 12-string guitar to overcome writer’s block or recording day in and day out, his passion for music burns as brightly as ever. The recent album ‘The Future Is Your Past’ and the hypnotic track Don’t Look At Me featuring Aimee Nash are testaments to his unwavering commitment to his craft.
In true Brian Jonestown Massacre style, there are no definitive statements – only chapters of a continuing saga fueled by raw passion and the sheer joy of creating. Anton’s ethos is simple: keep jumping into the fire and savor every moment of the ride.
