The Night Sea release ‘01.20.16 Set 1’ via Dangerbird Records

The Night Sea

The Night Sea’s new album is out on L.A’s Dangerbird Records. ‘01.20.16 Set 1’ showcases their take on improvised and avant-garde psyched out jazz. You can take a listen to the entire album, which is only a single track via Soundcloud below.

The Night Sea grew out of two musicians who met while in the process of getting their doctorate in Philosophy. This shows in their music, with themes of mythology, psychology, and mysticism.

“This recording captures the first time the 5 musicians played together as a group. The titanic and groove-instigating drummer Kevin Browne made the trip to LA from PA and met, for the first time, 3 of his new band mates moments before hitting tape together. Given the nature of The Night Sea, this of course only amplified the spirit of unbiased discovery and openness to the musical moments as they emerged.” – Peter Walker, The Night Sea

More about The Night Sea? The Night Sea at the core is Peter Walker and Dan Kincaid, exploring the creative process, its roots in the unconscious, and its eternal dance between the rational and intuitive mind. The paths of Walker and Kincaid converged in the fall of 2013 when they found themselves both embarking upon a doctorate in philosophy specializing in mythology, psychology, and mysticism. The two artists quickly discovered their kindred spirit and with it the seeds of a new project. With Walker on guitar and Kincaid playing keys, the two seem to telepathically flow together, melding into one as they create sweeping textures, psychedelic soundscapes and rhythmic interplays that morph through the moment as it unfolds.
