The Rentals premiere video for ‘It’s Time To Come Home’

The Rentals

The Rentals have premiered the video for It’s Time To Come Home – watch it below via YouTube. Directed by Daniel Kaufman, the video, part one in a two part series, takes place 50 years in the future, as a group of five elderly The Rentals haphazardly go out in search for new, younger bodies to transfer their spirits. Or as bandleader, Matt Sharp told Noisey, “It’s a simple science fiction tale about the quest for eternal life. Imagine if ‘Cocoon’ starred Gary Numan and Grimes instead of Wilford Brimley and Steve Guttenberg.”

It’s Time To Come Home arrives ahead of The Rentals first, full North American tour in support of last year’s release of ‘Lost In Alphaville,’ kicking off May 5 in Santa Cruz, CA and wrapping June 6 in Santa Ana, CA. Since the original March announcement of the tour, The Rentals have added dates in Montreal, PQ (5/20), Houston, TX (5/28) and the tour finale in Santa Ana.

‘Lost In Alphaville,’ released via Polyvinyl Record Co., is a landmark return from songwriter Matt Sharp, who assembled another great and eclectic collection of musicians to create, “a wonderfully endearing and otherworldly future-past melancholy vibe, and a bevy of memorable and infectious hooks”, said the esteemed Jim DeRogatis for WBEZ, including Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig (Lucius), Patrick Carney (The Black Keys), Ryen Slegr (Ozma), and Lauren Chipman (The Section Quartet). ‘Lost In Alphaville’ is currently available on CD, LP, Cassette and digital download via all online outlets. Order it here – polyvinylrecords.com/alphaville.

Keeping the musical-collective tradition that band has employed since it’s inception, the ever evolving, ever revolving door of guest Rentals collaborators will feature Shawn Glassford (Starfucker) on bass and synthesizers, Lizzy Ellison & Patti King (Radiation City) on vocals + synthesizers, Ryen Slegr (Ozma) on guitar, Ted Gowans (Tegan & Sara) on guitar, and Jared Shavelson on drums, which all swirl around Sharp’s deadpan vocals while he wildly conducts the onstage analog synth madness.
