Wavelength Winter Festival reshapes as online Speaker Series

Wavelength Winter Festival reshapes as online Speaker Series 2022 featuring keynote talk by Buffy Sainte-Marie. The pandemic may have caused plenty of disruption over the last two years, but it’s also presented unique opportunities for arts organizations to get creative and try out innovative new programming models. While the month of February normally sees audiences gather at venues for the Wavelength Winter Festival, 2022 once again sees us doing something new and different.

Throughout the month of March, Wavelength will be presenting a weekly Speaker Series, premiering each Wednesday evening on YouTube. All online and entirely free, the Wavelength Winter Festival: Speaker Series is presented with a focus on community care. While experiencing live arts can be difficult at this time, art is what breathes motivation, mobilization, and creative change.

Wavelength will present a keynote by Indigenous singer/songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie, living legend, pioneer of modern folk music since the 1960s, and winner of the 2015 Polaris Music Prize. Other speakers in the all-Canadian artist lineup include Canadian composition legend Beverly Glenn-Copeland; electro-soul artist Maylee Todd – who will be speaking as her digital avatar Maloo, in advance of the release of her new album of the same name on L.A.-based Stones Throw Records; and a conversation between musician/academic Casey Mecija (formerly of the band Ohbijou, now Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at York University) and Montreal musician/producer Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (of Constellation Records multidisciplinary project Jerusalem In My Heart).
The Speaker Series lineup will be rounded out by an original film created by Sook-Yin Lee (filmmaker, musician, actor, visual artist, and radio & TV broadcaster) and Dylan Gamble (of psych-rock band Hot Garbage).

Join in the conversation with some of our most beloved creators as they share stories that inspire new corridors of possibility and above all, hope.
