ZOO ZERO release self-titled debut album

ZOO ZERO, who take their name from the Alain Fischer directed French film starring Klaus Kinski, will release their self-titled debut album on September 30, 2013. ‘Zoo Zero’ is available as a download or on heavy gauge white vinyl, featuring a locked groove on the second side. The band are truly independent, turning down distribution deals and management interest in order to maintain full control over their music, and are releasing their debut via their own label, Crest Cont. On ‘Zoo Zero’, the band explores their more experimental influences – including Sonic Youth, Mission Of Burma and This Heat – while journeying further into the nocturnal psychedelic pop of Julian Cope, Robyn Hitchcock, MGMT, XTC and Deerhunter. “I guess we’re interested in music where noise and weirdness clashes with melody,” says Tom Pinnock (vocals, guitar). “It’s way too easy to make some avant-garde, instrumental record – it’s harder to combine the unexpected with actual songs.”

The album was recorded at Sofa Sound Studios in west London with engineer Scott Knapper (Scott Walker, Van Der Graaf Generator), the eight-track album expands on the quartet’s avant-rock sound, extending some tracks to epic lengths and developing a more complex, textured sound daubed with feedback and drones – all created purely with guitars, drums and vocals.

The group will launch the album at London, Dalston’s Victoria on October 1, 2013.
