Paris has a habit of quietly birthing bands that feel fully formed, and Dewey is one of those happy accidents you stumble into and immediately want to tell your friends about.
The Parisian indie rock / shoegaze quartet are back with Outside Of The Lines, a shimmering, emotionally charged new single that also happens to be the third and final preview of their debut album ‘Summer On A Curb,’ out February 13th, 2026 via the ever-reliable Howlin’ Banana Records.
If you’ve been spending time with records by Wishy, Wednesday, Hotline TNT, Slow Pulp, or Momma, this one’s going to land right in your sweet spot.
Dreamy guitars, restless energy
Outside Of The Lines leans deeper into shoegaze territory than anything Dewey has released so far. It opens in a fog of hazy guitars and chorus-drenched vocals, instantly calling to mind the romantic blur of My Bloody Valentine or the fuzzed-out immediacy of Hotline TNT. Just when you think you’ve got it pegged, the track shifts—tightening into a more syncopated groove where subtle drum machine touches nod to glossy 2000s pop production.
The result is a song that feels both nostalgic and forward-facing, suspended between quiet despair and stubborn optimism. It’s wistful without wallowing, upbeat without feeling lightweight—the kind of track that sneaks up on you and refuses to let go.
A debut that feels anything but tentative
‘Summer On A Curb’ finds Dewey confidently blending late ’90s alternative nostalgia with a sharp modern sensibility. Across 11 self-produced tracks, singer and guitarist Matthieu Berton delivers compact bursts of pop songwriting wrapped in gauzy guitars and undeniable charm. Think the dreamy textures of MBV colliding with the unapologetic catchiness of Avril Lavigne—a combination that somehow makes perfect sense here.

What’s most striking is how effortless it all feels. This is a debut that sounds spontaneous, heartfelt, and oddly inevitable, like a band that’s been quietly honing their sound while the rest of us weren’t paying attention. Track by track, Dewey reveals themselves as a group overflowing with melody and hooks, emerging from nowhere with pockets full of potential hits.
With ‘Summer On A Curb,’ Dewey look set to become a name worth keeping close tabs on—especially within a French indie scene that still doesn’t get nearly enough shine. If Outside Of The Lines is the final teaser, the full album promises something genuinely special.
