TANGIENTS drift into the ‘Void’ ahead of debut LP ‘Embers’

Los Angeles dream duo TANGIENTS have been making the wait for their debut album feel like floating through a fog — and in the best possible way. They’ve shared Void, the second single from ‘Embers’, which is out now, and it absolutely delivers on every gauzy, emotionally-charged promise the band has been building toward.

Vocalist and dreamweaver Chelsea Ray has a gift for making you feel like you’re underwater in the most beautiful way — her delivery on Void lands somewhere between Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser and something altogether her own: delicate, aching, and full of quiet power. Paired with multi-instrumentalist Be Hussey’s stratospheric guitar arrangements, the track layers jangly dream-pop warmth under a mysterious shimmer of otherworldly ambience. It’s the kind of song that pulls you into its own plane of existence and holds you there.

Sonically, TANGIENTS are carving out their own modern corner of a lineage that runs through early 4AD and the ’90s ethereal wave scene — a dense, gazed-out universe that feels both nostalgic and totally fresh. Void sits comfortably alongside the best of that tradition while never feeling like a retread.

Lyrically, Chelsea is diving deep. The song explores impermanence, emotional independence, and the radical act of choosing to live in the now:

“‘Void’ is a song for all you feelers, dreamers, and overthinkers. It’s about how the face we put on to show the world can be so drastically different from the way we truly feel inside… It’s okay to cry; it’s okay to feel. Sometimes life sucks; we don’t have to appear fine all the time.” — Chelsea Ray

The music video follows the same enchanting visual language as debut single The Ether — natural, sprawling landscapes as backdrop, semi-translucent imagery flickering in and out of focus, and Chelsea front and center delivering what can only be described as an agonized and powerful visual performance to match the emotional weight of the track. Freedom, internal struggle, and the grand vastness of the natural world all converge. It’s stunning.

TANGIENTS have been quietly building their reputation since releasing ’White Foam’ in 2018 and ‘Hazel’ in 2019, earning a devoted following among fans of dreamy post-punk and ethereal wave. ‘Embers’ — their hotly anticipated debut full-length — marks a significant leap: a focused, mature body of work dealing head-on with memory, loss, and the will to persevere. This isn’t nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. It’s something more honest than that.

Void is streaming now on YouTube. ‘Embers’ is also out now.
