There’s something about a track that sounds like it crawled out of a Manchester warehouse in the early ’90s and caught fire on the way out — and that’s exactly the vibe Terre Brûlée brings. The new single from Sarakiniko, the project of Breton artist Yann Canevet, channels a heady mix of Primal Scream’s swagger and a distinctly Weatherall-flavored twist, all wrapped up in a dense, visceral production that feels equal parts hypnotic and electric.
Vocals come courtesy of Yves Simon, whose presence on the track adds a melodic, almost trance-like pull to the whole thing. It’s groove-driven and organic, the kind of song that builds slowly and then just refuses to let go.
Terre Brûlée also marks something bigger: it’s the start of a new chapter for Sarakiniko, who’s now linked up with the Howlin’ Banana label. Consider this single the first spark — a full-length album is set to land this fall, and if this track is any indication, it’s going to be a scorcher (pun very much intended).
