Vancouver post-punk outfit DOUR have shared Towers, the second single from their debut album ‘AGORA’. Following the claustrophobic opening salvo of lead single Neophiliac, Towers turns the lens inward — a meditation on self-imposed isolation and the strange trap that modern comfort can quietly become.
Vocalist Zak Salehian puts it plainly: “Modern days have us in hibernation within human terrariums. We begin to isolate and curl into what becomes the most unique and advanced form of imprisonment. We create our own cells, as well fashion the key.”
Don’t come looking for a feel-good resolution here. Towers knows the exits exist — fresh air, nature, clarity — but it’s honest enough to admit the pull back to the tower is just as real. “Towers is not a hopeful response to this problem,” Salehian explains. “It’s identifying programmed mental illness, and a cyclical terror we all now share. The message is dire and is an outcry for liberation.“
Loss, Legacy, and a New Chapter
‘AGORA’ as a whole paints a stark portrait of contemporary life — technological saturation, social detachment, the slow erosion of self. But the album carries an added weight: it was written and recorded with an earlier incarnation of the band, including bassist Gabe Jacob Ferman, who passed away before its release. Rather than shelve the material, DOUR chose to put it out exactly as intended — a tribute to that creative partnership and proof that the work deserves to exist beyond the room where it was born.
The band has since evolved into a new lineup, and their live shows have followed suit — less about replication, more about reinterpreting these songs through who they are now. It’s a living thing.
On the Rise
DOUR broke through with their 2025 EP ‘Rudiments’ and have since shared stages with CHALK, DZ Deathrays, Omni, Friko, Art d’Ecco, and Tropical Fuck Storm. Lead single Neophiliac landed support from Alternative Press, The Line of Best Fit, Under The Radar, DIY Magazine, and Northern Transmissions.
