Brooklyn’s ADMIN is back, and they brought sharp elbows. Mirrored Construct, the band’s new 4-song EP, twists post-punk tension into something you physically cannot stand still to — out June 24th via Abandon Everything Records.
Wiry guitars, motorik grooves, driving basslines, and synth textures collide with lyrics that drift between frustration, celebration, and late-night revelation. It’s modern angst turned infectious rhythm — equal parts cyber-punk abrasion and dance-floor momentum. Where some bands lean on post-punk nostalgia, ADMIN trades that in for sharp edges and forward motion, landing on something that feels precise and untamed at the same time. All four tracks sound restless and genuine, built as much for sweating it out in a packed basement venue as for a solitary late-night walk through fluorescent city streets.
The Sound
Lead single What Happens rides a relentless bass groove beneath angular guitar stabs and deadpan vocals — pure dance-punk propulsion. Elsewhere, Marathon Times leans hypnotic, balancing no-wave textures with a sudden burst of chaos. Across the EP, ADMIN walks the line between quiet confrontation and frenetic release — music built for dim clubs, flickering lights, and cities that never fully sleep.
Who’s Behind It
ADMIN’s lineup pulls from some serious Brooklyn DNA, with members also playing in Monograms, Grim Streaker, and Balaclava: Piyal Basu on drums, Arif Hama on bass, Amelia Hazen on guitar/vocals, and Ian Jacobs on vocals/synth.
‘Mirrored Construct’ was produced by Jacobs and recorded at Studio G in Brooklyn, engineered by Jeff Burner, mixed by Digo Best, and mastered by Joe Lambert — whose credits include Deerhunter, A Place to Bury Strangers, and Cloud Nothings.
The Story Behind the Title
Frontman Ian Jacobs describes the EP as a time capsule of reflection and release:
“It’s a phrase I just kept saying… ‘Mirrored Construct’, it’s the idea of the perception of sorta realizing where the hell you’re at, where you’re going and where you’ve been in this crazy game we call life. Mirrors became a lyrical theme of the EP on a couple songs and it’s obviously a metaphor for self reflection but it’s also about perspective and how you build that construct in the system of reality you exist in. I’ve actually been in a good place the last few years personally, but that has not always been the case in my life so I wanted to take a moment to reflect and celebrate that. Not in a glass half-full-type-normalizing way, but actually being in the moment and appreciating everything that is or isn’t… also I just thought the title sounded kinda cool when I said it… so there’s that too.“
He continues on the EP’s sonic intent:
“Sonically, we all wanted these songs to feel cleansing and physical, panicked yet reassuring. Like a cathartic epiphony… but while you’re melting on the dance floor. Hopefully we got there, so everyone can share in some of that purifying panic with us.“

Since forming, ADMIN has built a reputation for intense live performances, merging post-punk urgency with cinematic atmosphere. They’ve supported Of Montreal, Pure Adult, and ISTA, toured steadily, and picked up press from Brooklyn Vegan, Under the Radar, and others. With ‘Mirrored Construct,’ the band carves out a space where post-punk austerity meets an insistent groove — music that drives, and ultimately consumes.
