It’s been a year since PUP first teased the video for Concrete, and now it’s finally here — and somehow, the wait made it even better. The Toronto punks just dropped a fully analogue, stop-motion masterpiece for the ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’ standout, alongside a brand new song, If This Is It, pulled straight from the same studio sessions.
Let’s talk about that video first, because it’s genuinely unhinged in the best way. Director Sterling Larose filmed the band and broke the footage into over 1,000 frames, then sent them off to thirteen different designers and animators who turned each one into a hand-made magazine cover, tabloid spread, fake ad, or zine page. No AI, no shortcuts — just a small army of artists physically printing, photographing, and animating thousands of frames by hand. The result is a chaotic, collage-style fever dream that feels exactly like a PUP song should look.
A Year-Long Detour That Was Worth It
The timeline alone is a story. PUP shot the video on a layover to Australia, then heard nothing for months while the project disappeared into what frontman Stefan Babcock calls a “technical abyss.” Then, out of nowhere, it resurfaced — finished, frame by frame, after hundreds and hundreds of hours of work.
“We’re fully aware that releasing a video for a song that’s already been out a year is a stupid thing to do. But we don’t care. At this point, we’re in an incredibly lucky position with PUP to mostly do whatever we want with this band, and for us, it was completely worth the wait.” – Stefan Babcock
That’s PUP in a nutshell: self-aware, a little self-deprecating, and completely unwilling to do things the easy way.
A Bonus Track From the Vault
If This Is It was recorded during the ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’ sessions but held back until now, and it’s a welcome extra for anyone who’s been spinning the album on repeat since it dropped. Considering the record’s run of acclaim — top 5 Billboard chart positions across the US and Canada — it makes sense the band has more in the tank from those sessions.

PUP is barely slowing down. UK headline dates and 2000trees, plus a hometown co-headline show with Jimmy Eat World at RBC Amphitheater on August 23 — where they’ll play ‘The Dream Is Over’ in full for its 10th anniversary. FEST in Gainesville and a string of fall US dates round out the run.
