Psych rock favourites The Lazy Eyes are back with the third taste of their upcoming record, and this one churns. Always In The Back Of My Mind is out now, the latest preview of ‘Cheesy Love Songs’, due August 21st via AWAL.
Where the singles so far have leaned into the album’s softer, lovesick side, this one shakes things up a little. Vocalist Harvey Geraghty says the earlier tracks
“explore our softer, love song side”
— but Always In The Back Of My Mind trades some of that sparsity for sludgy, reverb-heavy guitar without losing the band’s signature psychedelic pull. It’s introspective, it’s a little woozy, and it’s got that unmistakable Lazy Eyes DNA running through it.
Gear Talk: The $50 Secret Weapon
Turns out one of the song’s key ingredients came from a garage sale find. Harvey explains:
“This song features one of my favourite instruments to play at home, the Farfisa Bravo. I bought it for about $50 and I just love the tone and charm that it has.”
The vintage keyboard’s built-in drum machine also makes an appearance on the track — proof that sometimes the cheapest gear in the room ends up doing the heaviest lifting.
About the Album
‘Cheesy Love Songs’ is The Lazy Eyes’ second full-length, and it’s shaping up to be a love letter to classic pop songcraft — swelling choruses, bittersweet lyrics, and a sound that nods as much to The Kinks and The Beatles as it does to The Strokes. The title is a callback to ‘Cheesy Love Song’, the very first track the band ever released, and the record itself represents a back-to-basics reset for the group as they figure out who The Lazy Eyes are in 2026.
A music box is the first sound you hear on the album — delicate, deceptively simple, and reliant on dozens of tiny moving parts working in harmony. It’s a fitting metaphor for the record as a whole: not having all the answers, it turns out, can still lead to your best work yet.

About The Lazy Eyes
Made up of dual singer/guitarists Itay Shachar and Harvey Geraghty, drummer Noah Martin, and bassist Leon Karagic, The Lazy Eyes have been building momentum since forming in high school and cutting their teeth on Sydney’s gig circuit. Two early EPs in 2020 and 2021 tapped into the sonic worlds of King Gizzard and Tame Impala, before their 2022 debut album ‘SongBook’ racked up millions of streams and cemented their reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting exports.
Since then, the band has supported Wet Leg, Djo and The Strokes, played Laneway Festival, SXSW, All Points East and Splendour in the Grass, and toured Australia, New Zealand, the US, Mexico, the UK and Europe — all before turning 25.
