NYC dream-pop outfit Slow Fiction have officially arrived with their debut full-length, ‘dollhouse’, out now via Tight Knit. The self-produced record — mixed by Sonny DiPerri (DIIV, Julie) — lands alongside a new single, ninetynine, the album’s propulsive, post-punk second track.
And the early buzz is loud: features at CLASH (“In Their Library”) and DIY Magazine, an 84/100 rave from Indie Basketball, plus playlist love from NPR Music’s New Music Friday and WONDERLAND.
About ninetynine
ninetynine turns the mundane into a mirror, chewing on how much we perform our own lives even when nobody’s watching. Urgent drums and dynamic guitars mirror that tension throughout. Singer Julia Vassallo puts it best:
“In some ways, we all romanticize our lives to the point of being a little Truman Show about it… There’s a certain overt narcissism with thinking there’s a camera centering itself on your life specifically, and it turns out the camera is usually in your own hands.“
About the Album
‘dollhouse’ is 11 tracks of identity turned inside out — private worlds that are always, somehow, on display. Surveillance and introspection blur together as the band probes who we are alone versus who we become when we’re seen, whether by others, by the internet, or by ourselves. It’s less a statement than a mirror, shaped as much by the listener as by the band.
Recording kicked off in August 2025, with mixes wrapped in January alongside DiPerri. Rather than re-tracking the road-tested versions of these songs, the band chose to unlearn them — leaning into vintage gear, a pump organ, Mellotron, and vocoder simply because they were within reach. Guitarist Paul Knepple calls the self-production process “another layer of the songwriting.“
Earlier singles turning down flowers, satellite, and junior year already picked up support from Rolling Stone (Songs You Need to Know), The Line of Best Fit, CLASH, Consequence, FLOOD, Brooklyn Vegan, Under the Radar, Northern Transmissions, and Ones to Watch.
