Big news out of Denmark: Trentemøller has confirmed his eighth studio album, a self-titled effort landing this November. To kick things off, he’s dropped the first single, Terrified, featuring vocals from Mew’s Jonas Bjerre — plus a video directed by Bjerre himself. Pre-order the album here.
About the Single
Terrified is the lead cut from Trentemøller’s upcoming self-titled record, and it’s one of the album’s brightest moments — stream-of-consciousness lyrics colliding with Bjerre’s soaring vocals as he stares fear straight in the eye.
“When the instrumental was done, I sent it to Jonas Bjerre with a few melody ideas, which he took further while adding new melodies of his own.”
The accompanying video comes courtesy of Bjerre, with the album set to arrive November 13th.
“I think sometimes when you dream about things that make you fearful and uneasy, it’s your mind trying to prepare you for any scenario, like you’re processing catastrophes that have not and may not ever happen.”
Trentemøller also opened up about reworking the track: “‘Terrified’ is probably the poppiest song on the album. In its original form it sounded a lot more shoegazey, but I wanted it to be crisper and clearer, less washed out. So I went for synths that almost sound like human voices, with a magical, otherworldly quality to them.“
