New album ‘Allbarone’ lands September 12 via Heavenly Recordings
Baxter Dury is back with his signature blend of sharp wit and off-kilter swagger, dropping his latest single Schadenfreude—a wry, infectious slice of electro-pop soaked in sardonic joy. The track is lifted from his upcoming album ‘Allbarone,’ set to arrive September 12 on Heavenly Recordings.
Produced by the ever-epic Paul Epworth (you’ve heard his work on Adele, U2, Florence + the Machine), ‘Allbarone’ promises a glossier, more euphoric sound for Dury—without losing the winking cynicism we love him for.
On Schadenfreude, Dury dances atop a hypnotic, pulsing Euro-disco rhythm, gleefully recounting the guilty pleasure of witnessing someone else’s downfall. It’s camp, it’s clever, and it’s kind of cathartic. As he puts it, the song is “an optimistic pulsating French dance feel compromised by this slightly over-honest fragile man lyric.” That about nails it.
Recorded at Epworth’s “palatial” studio—complete with monstrous custom speakers that Dury charmingly calls Cocaine Daleks—the track radiates confidence and chaos in equal measure.
The video? A visual treat to match the Schadenfreude’s addictive high.

‘Allbarone’ is shaping up to be a late-summer gem, with a track list that’s as curious as it is promising:
- Allbarone
- Schadenfreude
- Kubla Khan
- Alpha Dog
- The Other Me
- Hapsburg
- Return of the Sharp Heads
- Mockingjay
- Mr W4
Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering Dury’s unique world of suave misfits and half-cut wisdom, ‘Allbarone’ is one to keep on your radar.
