“In the early stages of writing, I knew Neanderthal had to be the opening track,” says Mould. “It’s about a child growing up in an unstable home, constantly caught in a fight-or-flight scenario. The song barrels through a maze of tension and aggression, only to be met with two subconscious voices—one deceptively soothing, the other violent and reactionary. It’s a song about survival.”

Recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago and mixed at Tiny Telephone in Oakland with longtime engineer Beau Sorenson, the album showcases Mould’s signature blend of high-intensity guitar pop and razor-sharp songwriting. Backed once again by drummer Jon Wurster and bassist Jason Narducy, this powerhouse trio delivers 11 songs packed with urgency, melody, and emotional weight.

Mould and his band are hitting the road this spring, kicking off with an April 1 show in San Diego, CA, and making stops in Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, and more. The tour wraps up in Kalamazoo, MI, on May 11.
