Home Counties have returned with their second single Dad Bod, along with the announcement of their signing to UK label Alcopop! Records. They will release of their debut EP ‘Redevelopment’ on September 4th.
Following the release of the band’s acclaimed debut single Redevelopment, this time Home Counties turn their attention to the ‘progressive’ metropolitan man and his relationship with middle-class privilege. Zig-zagging into even wilder, more exciting territory – Dad Bod succinctly showcases the band’s aptness for wonk-pop doozies.
Speaking on the release of the new single, songwriter and vocalist Will Harrison said: “Dad Bod explores modern middle-class masculinity, with a particular focus upon the ‘progressive’ metropolitan man. The song initially takes a light-hearted standpoint listing the aesthetic traits and status symbols of modern men before moving on to address a darker side which is hidden behind the comfortability and respectfulness of a Dad Bod.” Listen to the single via YouTube below.
Previously touring with the likes of Shame, Sports Team, Hotel Lux and Pip Blom, Home Counties combine angular guitar work with furious percussion to create melodically rigid, socially-charged anthems that are both lyrically tongue-in-cheek and scathingly satirical.
Consisting of Will Harrison (vocals/guitar), Conor Kearney (guitar/vocals), Barn Peiser Pepin (synth/percussion/vocals), Sam Woodroffe (bass) and Dan Hearn (drums), Home Counties recorded new single Dad Bod (and their upcoming ‘Redevelopment’ EP) at Brighton Electric with producer Theo Verney (Egyptian Blue, Lazarus Kane, Fur).
Debut single Redevelopment was released in March to much fanfare, including radio airplay and support from Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1), Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) and Matt Wilkinson (Beats 1), along with press support from DIY, Loud & Quiet, NME, So Young Magazine, Gigwise and more.
Dad Bod is the second song to be lifted from Home Counties’ upcoming debut EP – ‘Redevelopment’ – which is due for release September 4th via Alcopop! Records. Dad Bod is out now digitally, and available on cassette via the Alcopop! webstore.
