Copenhagen by way of Seattle four-piece Communions are gearing up for their first-ever release with their new label Fat Possum Records, a 7″ coming out on September 16th. To prep us all for the release, they share a new song called Eternity, the forthcoming single’s aa-side and follows the previously released a-side Don’t Hold Anything Back. Listen to Eternity via Soundcloud below and pre-order the 7-inch here or here.
The quartet came together at Mayhem, a storied local rehearsal space where most of Copenhagen’s new punk, industrial and synth scene originates and where Denmark contemporaries Iceagealso rehearse. However, the comparison between these Danish peers end there – whereas Iceage take their cues from hardcore, Communions do so from the type of British post punk and indie pop typified by Creation Records. The band has a sound all their own, earning themselves the title of “Copenhagen’s cheeriest band” by The FADER.
Communions – made up of brothers Martin and Mads Rehof and high school friends Jacob van Deurs Formann and Frederik Lind Köppen – began in 2014, releasing their debut EP Cobblestones on Posh Isolation, which was followed by a 7-inch and EP on Tough Love Records. These releases, as well as the forthcoming 7-inch, precede the band’s anticipated debut album and showcase Communions’ distinctive sound full of transcendent melodies, delicate guitar lines and emotive pop-leaning rock songs.
The band are touring throughout Europe/UK next month with Sunflower Bean. See below to find a show near you and get your tickets here.
