Cucamaras share new single ‘Death of The Social’

Cucamaras have shared their aggressive post-punk anthem Death of The Social. The track has a haunting lead guitar riff that throws you down the band’s very own sonic rabbit hole. Death of the Social pulls you in by the scruff of the neck and won’t let go until the last crash of the cymbal, leaving you begging for more. You’ll love this track if you’re into Fontaines D.C. or IDLES.

Cucamaras are Josh Hart, Olly Bowley, Dan McGrath and Joe Newton. They have taken inspiration from the work of sociologist Jean Baudrillard to write this track, which was recorded and mixed at Rainy Daze Recordings in their hometown. Being written whilst gigging in Paris, after a hungover debate between Hart and Bowley; the song takes inspiration from postmodernism as well as drawing on internal anxieties that the two have about an increasing social divide in society. 

The band describe Death of the Social as “the heaviest sounding track we’ve ever written”. About the track, the band’s Josh Hart said, “The lyrics that Olly wrote for the track took a really simple but stark form. I think we both enjoy how literal and honest the track is, and that’s matched with probably our most simple song structure we’ve ever had, but that chorus just has impact and I think it will be somewhat of a protagonist in our live set. You can’t not go nuts for that, surely?”

After forming in 2019, word of Cucamaras spread like wildfire, with BBC Introducing being quick off the mark to proclaim themselves fans from the very beginning. Quickly racking up over 45,000 streams on Spotify, the band have headlined sold out shows in Sheffield and Nottingham, as well as appearing on stages in Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham. 2020 saw the band release tracks such as Lime Street Liar, Keep It Cool and Window Seat, with a string of live shows due to take place before lockdown measures were introduced.

Death of the Social highlights a mature yet heavy step in a new direction for Cucamaras. With gigs expected to return within months, the track will feature prominently in the band’s set, which will prove to be an energetic and rowdy performance, with new material set to drop later in 2021.
