French shoegaze band Dead Horse One have announced their third album ‘The West Is The Best’, which will be out November 22 via Requiem Pour Un Twister. Along with the announcement, they have released the video for album track Saudade. ‘The West Is The Best‘ was mixed by Mark Gardener (Ride). Watch the Saudade video clip via YouTube below.

Saudade is the first single from our album The West Is The Best.” Dead Horse One explains. “This is a special song for us because it was written by Rorika Loring, her husband John and ourselves. Rorika and John play in Fleeting Joys which is none less than one of the best shoegaze band of the second wave, post-2000. From another point of view, the song joins the title of the album since it is a French, English collaboration, by the presence of Mark Gardener at the mix table, and American, the Loring family is from Sacramento. The video evokes the old-fashioned charm of Europe, which aspires to transform while retaining its roots. The video was filmed in Portugal by Pedro Wilde”

Dead Horse One are from Valence in the south of France. While recording their first album in 2014, they connected with Ride’s Mark Gardener. After listening to their material, Gardener decided to produce their first LP ‘Without Love We Perish’. Following the release of the album, the band played more than a hundred gigs across Europe for the next three years, which included an appearance at the Liverpool Psych Fest. In 2017, the band collaborated with producer John Loring (Fleeting Joys), who produced their second album, ‘Season of Mist’. While on tour that year, they supported Ride for a handful of shows during their European tour.

2018 proved to be another momentous year for the band. Dead Horse One shared the stage with the legendary Brian Jonestown Massacre as well with the Philadelphia based band, Nothing for an epic gig in Paris.

For their third LP ‘The West Is The Best’ (our on November 2019), the band returned to the studio with the producer John Loring. The album marks a second collaboration with Mark Gardner, who mixed this record. When commenting on the new album’s title and album cover, the band’s lead singer/songwriter, Olivier Debard, said that ‘The West is The Best’ concerns a variety of complex contemporary and cultural themes and is therefore intentionally ambiguous. Debard continues that the album thematically is “a collection of thwarted love songs in the spirit of Sparklehorse and other such 90’s bands”.
