Deerhoof is back with a new album that’s as audacious as it is unforgettable. Titled ‘Noble and Godlike in Ruin,’ this record drops on April 25, 2025, via Joyful Noise Recordings, and the band is already turning heads with their unconventional premiere.

Unexpected premiere on Craigslist
In true Deerhoof fashion, they premiered the lead single Immigrant Songs two days before its official release—via Craigslist of all places. Through quirky ‘Services’ posts in cities like BrooklynTucsonPortland, and Minneapolis, the band offered an exclusive sneak peek into their epic album, complete with striking artwork shots. This offbeat approach shines a light on a platform that’s anything but mainstream.

A Sonic Journey Like No Other
Immigrant Songs takes you on an unexpected odyssey. It opens with an innocuous lyric about showing up to a party, wrapped in delicate bells and shimmering guitar lines. But just when you think you know where it’s headed, the track erupts into a noise-rock explosion—a reflection of reality coming apart at the seams. Deerhoof’s lineup—Satomi Matsuzaki, Ed Rodriguez, John Dieterich, and Greg Saunier—effortlessly shifts from restrained bossa nova-inflected rhythms to moments of chaotic, exhilarating soundscapes. As the lyrics evolve, so does the story, hinting at layers of meaning and cultural references (yes, there’s even a nod to Led Zeppelin in there).

A Message With a Punch
Greg from Deerhoof sums it up perfectly: “This song is kind of a sequel to Satomi describing her immigration tribulations in ‘Exit Only.’ It’s a raw look at how twisted the discourse around immigration has become, reminding us that the real heroes are those who keep our society together, not the self-serving politicians.” His words capture the spirit of the song—both a personal journey and a commentary on the times we live in.

Album Highlights and More
‘Noble and Godlike in Ruin’ is Deerhoof’s 20th album and follows their critically acclaimed 2023 release ‘Miracle-Level’. Self-produced and featuring a standout collaboration with Saul Williams on Under Rats, the record is packed with moments that blend whimsy with revolutionary spirit. Earlier digital and limited-edition vinyl releases of Overrated Species Anyhow and Sparrow Sparrow set the stage for this bold new chapter.
