Following standout singles All My Freaks and Antarctica—both A-listed on BBC 6 Music—and the recent shape-shifting release Pill, Hangman delivers an intimate, heartfelt narrative wrapped in the band’s signature sonic energy. Felix Mackenzie-Barrow, co-vocalist and guitarist, leads the charge with a stirring refrain: “I want to lift you up”—an uplifting mantra carried by the band’s rich instrumental layers.
Felix Mackenzie-Barrow on Hangman: “I wrote Hangman late one night in my freezing, mold-ridden bedroom after a long shift as a support worker. The song poured out in twenty minutes—lyrics, chords, structure—all in one go. I borrowed Tiger’s Omnichord, an instrument I don’t usually write with, and it gave the song a unique quality.
“That job taught me a lot about emotional control, something I hadn’t fully experienced before. Writing about it helped me process everything, and when I listened to the demo on my way back to work the next morning, I knew I had something special. Social care work is undervalued and often invisible, but it’s vital. This song is my way of acknowledging the incredible people who do that work every day.”

The Journey to ‘Drive to Goldenhammer’
Since forming in 2021, Divorce have carved out a reputation for their genre-blending sound, blending indie rock, folk, and alt-pop. Their rapid rise saw them sign to Gravity Records (Universal Music) for their acclaimed Heady Metal EP, and spend 2024 lighting up festival stages and touring with Bombay Bicycle Club, The Vaccines, and Everything Everything. Selling out a four-night residency at Nottingham’s Bodega cemented their status as one of the UK’s most exciting new acts.
Life on the road left the band searching for a sense of home, and ‘Drive to Goldenhammer’ reflects that journey. Across 12 meticulously crafted tracks, Divorce explore themes of belonging, transformation, and identity, blending pastoral melodies, dynamic indie rock, and chamber pop flourishes. Influenced by their Midlands roots and a sense of nostalgia, the record serves as both a personal retreat and an open invitation.
The album was written and demoed at The Calm Farm in rural North Yorkshire, across four seasonal recording retreats, before being brought to life with producer Catherine Marks (boygenius, Foals, Wolf Alice) at Real World Studios. The result? A record that captures the warmth and intimacy of its origins while embracing a sonic vastness that speaks to the band’s evolution.
Tiger Cohen-Towell on ‘Drive to Goldenhammer’: “We’re incredibly proud of this album. We followed our instincts, kept the weird bits, and made something that truly feels like us. It’s about searching for home, something universal to everyone. And to Goldenhammer—we’ll keep searching for you, again and again.”
