FACS unleash ‘Wish Defense’  – The Final Album Engineered by Steve Albini

Chicago trio FACS return with their sixth studio album, ‘Wish Defense’—out now via Trouble In Mind Records—a raw and unflinching exploration of duality, identity, and self-confrontation.

The album delves into the concept of doppelgängers and “doubles”, as vocalist Brian Case reflects on the unsettling experience of facing oneself, questioning motives, and examining inner conflicts.

But ‘Wish Defense’ is more than just a sonic reckoning—it’s also a historic moment in music. The album marks the final recording engineered by the legendary Steve Albini. Just days before his passing, Albini helmed the initial sessions at Electrical Audio, with long-time friend and engineer Sanford Parker stepping in to complete the project within 24 hours. The album was mixed by John Congleton, staying true to Albini’s vision—tape-driven, raw, and unrelenting.

A New Chapter in FACS’ Evolution

Now rejoining the fold—this time on bass—his presence reshapes the band’s sound and chemistry, building on the rhythmic force of Noah Leger’sdrumming and the band’s signature angular, atmospheric tension. The shift in roles brings fresh energy, allowing FACS to reinvent their sonic landscapes while still delivering the uncompromising post-punk intensity they’re known for.
