Grandaddy is back: First North American tour in over 20 years

Indie-rock fans, it’s time to get emotional — Grandaddy is hitting the road again for the first time in more than two decades. The band just announced The Sophtware Slump 25th Anniversary Tour, and yes, they’ll be playing the entire album live. It’s been a long time coming, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most anticipated reunions of the year.

Pedro the Lion and Greg Freeman will be joining on select dates, making this an even more irresistible lineup.

Rewind to 2000

When ‘The Sophtware Slump’ first dropped in Y2K, it was like nothing else — part sci-fi folk, part digital breakdown, and completely timeless. Jason Lytle’s lonely melodies and wry observations struck a nerve with listeners navigating a world tipping into technological chaos. Fast forward 25 years, and the album feels eerily relevant all over again.

Critics called it:

  • “A masterpiece” – NPR
  • “An indie-rock classic” – Rolling Stone
  • “A sad, quaint, low-key Y2K-era classic” – Pitchfork
  • “An excavation of the splendour in our inevitable degradation” – Stereogum

From disintegrating suburbia to glitchy emotional landscapes, ‘The Sophtware Slump’ tackled themes of progress, nostalgia, loss, and resilience — all wrapped in lush, lo-fi arrangements. And now, Grandaddy is bringing it back to the stage.

What to Expect

The tour follows the band’s return to form with 2024’s well-received album ‘Blu Wav,’ which proved Grandaddy still has plenty to say — and sound incredible doing it. Over the past few years, they’ve revisited their back catalog with reissues and even reimagined the classic album with the stripped-down ‘The Sophtware Slump’….. on a wooden piano.

Now, they’re ready to bring the full experience to a city near you, with the original lineup (honoring the memory of late bassist Kevin Garcia, who passed away in 2017) and a fresh wave of momentum.
