Introducing indie rockers GRMLN who are the brainchild of Kyoto, Japan Born and Southern California raised, 19-year-old Yoodoo Park. In the summer of 2010, Park began recording in his garage between sessions on his surfboard. Park chose the name GRMLN to echo the feelings of otherworldliness and disconnect he felt during his summers. Currently, he’s a student at the University of California Santa Cruz and pens songs there when he’s away from his makeshift recording studio and his live band, in which he plays with his brother.
Listen to the first single Coral, which is lifted from Park’s debut EP ‘Explore’ below.
[audio:Coral.mp3|titles=GRMLN – Coral]The EP is based on Park’s inspiration by the scenery of his coastal surroundings, discovering and developing his singular voice to create a wistful palette of blues, greens and golds.
On ‘Explore’, Park mixes clean, jangly indie guitars and strong bass with his laidback, muted vocals. GRMLN’s is definitely Californian, but there’s a sense of nostalgia that pervades ‘Explore’, hearkening back to Park’s roots in Japan, where he still spends every summer.
