New single ‘Wasteland’ out now – listen here
First-ever US shows & London EP launch in May
London’s own lo-fi rock powerhouse, heavy wild, are making waves with the announcement of their debut EP, ‘Death Dreams,’ set for release on May 28. Alongside this revelation, the band drops their latest single, Wasteland—a raw, introspective track that dives deep into themes of fractured relationships, brushes with the law, and personal battles.
Frontman and songwriter Wolfgang Harte describes Wasteland as both dark and defiant: “Ultimately, it’s an optimistic track. It’s about surviving the wreckage and pushing forward. I started with this hypnotic bassline, and as I played it over and over, all these memories started flooding in. The song became a way of processing everything—standing in the chaos and saying, ‘fuck it, just keep going.’”
Drenched in distorted synths, shimmering guitars, and fuzzed-out vocals, Wasteland takes inspiration from the golden era of lo-fi rock. Harte cites early records from Wavves, Beach Fossils, Small Black, Girls, and Crocodiles as key influences. “I wanted the song to feel like it could fall apart at any moment—that frenetic, unhinged energy,” he explains.
‘Death Dreams’ – A sonic collision of lo-fi, post-punk, and garage rock
A fusion of alternative rock, post-punk, shoegaze, and grunge, ‘Death Dreams’ is the culmination of heavy wild’s sonic evolution, crafted in collaboration with producer Paolo Ruiu. Reflecting on the EP, Harte shares: “I never write with a specific theme in mind, but looking back, it’s clear these songs come from the same place. There’s chaos, intensity, but also moments of reflection. Some fan favourites made the cut, but there’s fresh material too—I can’t wait for people to hear where this project is heading.”
