North American Tour Kicks Off March 14, Including Big Ears Festival & SXSW
‘Nanocluster Vol. 3,’ the latest installment in Immersion’s boundary-pushing collaboration series, is out now via ~swim. This time, the electronic duo—Colin Newman (Wire) and Malka Spigel (Minimal Compact)—joins forces with ambient Americana trio SUSS to craft an expansive sonic landscape where atmospheric electronics meet cinematic country.
The result? A striking fusion of European post-punk precision and vast, open-sky Americana—where deep ambient textures, shimmering pedal steel, and hypnotic rhythms converge into something entirely new.

A Transatlantic Sound Experiment
Immersion’s Nanocluster series has always thrived on unexpected collaborations, from Laetitia Sadier and Ulrich Schnauss (Vol. 1) to Swans’ Thor Harris (Vol. 2). Now, ‘Vol. 3’ sees Newman and Spigel pushing their sonic explorations even further, embracing SUSS’s evocative, frontier-horizon soundscapes.
Described by Pitchfork as a band whose music “stands as tall and clean as a brand-new pair of cowboy boots,” SUSS is known for weaving pedal steel, mandolin, harmonica, and baritone guitar into hauntingly beautiful compositions. Their latest album, ‘Birds & Beasts’ (Northern Spy Records), reflects this spirit of discovery—making them the perfect Nanocluster partners.
“Collaboration is at the heart of what we do,” says SUSS’ Bob Holmes. “Working with Immersion led us somewhere we never expected—and that’s exactly the point.”

Immersion & SUSS Take Nanocluster on the Road
Following the album’s release, both bands will embark on a unique North American tour, performing individual sets before coming together for an immersive, collaborative finale each night. The tour launches March 14 at SXSW and includes a highly anticipated performance at Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN, as well as stops in major cities including New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
