Wye Oak dropped into the AV Club headquarters in\u00a0Chicago two times to participate in their \u201cUndercover\u201d series. Each\u00a0Undercover series starts with AV Club writers choosing 25 songs and\u00a0inviting 25 bands to come to their offices in Chicago to\u00a0perform one of the remaining tracks from the list.<\/p>\n

Wye Oak’s first visit to the AV Club round room to cover\u00a0The Kinks\u2019 track Strangers<\/em>\u00a0was in the spring of 2010 – watch it here<\/a>.\u00a0They were joined by Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg, and their\u00a0performance was one of the finalists in the AV Club\u2019s poll for\u00a0\u201cBest of the Series.\u201d Jenn and Andy were invited back in the\u00a0following spring and chose to go a darker route by covering Danzig’s Mother<\/em> – watch it here<\/a>.\u00a0This time they were joined by Callers\u2019 Don \u201cDonzig\u201d Godwin on tenor horn.<\/p>\n

Jenn said, \u201cWe had a blast participating in the AV Club\u2019s\u00a0Undercover series and were pleasantly surprised that so many people\u00a0enjoyed our take on these two songs. We\u2019re happy to have these\u00a0versions released for those who were interested in owning them for\u00a0themselves. Thanks to Merge and the AV Club for making it all\u00a0happen.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Merge will release the two covers recorded at the AV Club,\u00a0Strangers<\/em> b\/w Mother<\/em>\u00a0as a limited-edition 7-inch and digital download on November 22. \u00a0Pre-order the 7-inch\u00a0now in the Merge store<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The AV Club visited Jenn in Baltimore to visit her favourite local\u00a0haunts and discuss their catchy track, Holy Holy<\/em> from ‘Civilian’ as part of their\u00a0\u201cOne Track Mind\u201d series. Watch the episode now at the AV Club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The band will be out on tour in November and December in support of their latest album, “Civilian”.<\/p>\n
