Dilly Dally are a band from Toronto lead\u00a0by Katie Monks and Liz Ball. The two have been friends since they were teenagers, bonding over a love of dreamy, grungy guitars and epic pop ballads, and began writing music together in their Toronto apartment.<\/p>\n
Their\u00a0new single, Gender Role<\/em>, is out via\u00a0Buzz Records and concerns the discordance between personal sexuality and societal expectations. \u201cLots of lyrics in the song are stream of consciousness sexual fantasies that push and pull against different gender stereotypes,\u201d<\/em> says Monks. \u201cUltimately it\u2019s about the frustration I feel, almost like an argument I’m having with my own body sometimes, how my fantasies rarely line up with who society expects me to be. Endlessly being challenged by my own secret thoughts. Within that frustration and confusion, there is an alluring sense of danger and discovery. Maybe some people won’t think the song is sexy, but I think of it as being really sexy.
