Downtown Toronto\u2019s annual outdoor multi-day boutique summer roots music festival,\u00a0TURF\u00a0(Toronto Urban Roots Festival)\u00a0has been nominated in the\u00a0Festival Of The Year\u00a0category\u00a0at\u00a0the upcoming\u00a02015\u00a0Pollstar Concert Industry Awards. What do you think? Does it deserve to win in the category?<\/p>\n

Other nominees include the\u00a0Newport Folk Fest,\u00a0Pitchfork,\u00a0Treasure Island\u00a0and past nominees have included prestigious North American boutique events like Colorado\u2019s\u00a0Telluride Bluegrass,\u00a0Boston Calling, Austin\u2019s\u00a0Fun Fun Fun, and San Francisco\u2019s\u00a0Hardly Strictly Bluegrass.<\/p>\n

Canadian nominees in other categories include the\u00a0Air Canada Centre\u00a0for Arena of the Year, and Quebec City\u2019s\u00a0Centre Vid\u00e9otron\u00a0for Best New Major Concert Venue.\u00a0The nomination committee includes 163 agents, managers, promoters,and touring industry professionals. The winners will be announced at the 27th Annual Pollstar Awards on February 12th at the SF Masonic in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

TURF is also\u00a0excited\u00a0to announce the next year’s festival will permanently stay in the fall\u00a0and at Historic Fort York Common with the 2016 dates confirmed on September 14th-19th<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year the festival boasted record attendance numbers,\u201d<\/em> says TURF Artistic Director and President\u00a0Jeff Cohen. \u201cWe found there were more headliner availabilities in September than in July and as our event is very artist focused I think this will allow our programmers\u00a0Ben Pearlman,\u00a0Craig Laskey\u00a0and\u00a0Donny Kutzbach\u00a0more space to curate.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll be looking at potential programming changes for 2016,\u201d<\/em> adds Cohen. \u201cWe are flirting with ideas for a fourth\u00a0stage, specifically to add both comedy, and Western style folk fest workshops, with perhaps the addition of a huge tented stage, plus we are going to revamp and increase the VIP viewing areas.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe also want to continue our environmental initiatives,\u201d<\/em> adds\u00a0Tara King Cohen, TURF\u2019s on-site Designer. \u201cWe saved thousands of bottles\u00a0of water\u00a0through with last years no bottled water policy thanks to\u00a0Water-on-Wheels, but we hope to improve our on site recycling efforts moving forward.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Tickets will go on sale for TURF in early 2016, which will take place on September 14-19, 2016.<\/p>\n
