{"id":22337,"date":"2016-07-07T12:00:19","date_gmt":"2016-07-07T16:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=22337"},"modified":"2016-07-05T20:14:25","modified_gmt":"2016-07-06T00:14:25","slug":"warhaus-shares-new-track-im-not","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=22337","title":{"rendered":"Warhaus shares new track &#8216;I&#8217;m Not Him&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Warhaus\u00a0is the artistic alter ego and solo recording project of\u00a0Maarten Devoldere, who (along with Jinte Deprez) fronts the urbanely soulful Belgian rock band Balthazar.\u00a0Warhaus\u2019 debut album &#8216;We Fucked A Flame Into Being&#8217;\u00a0will be released on\u00a0September 2<sup>nd.<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The title of\u00a0Warhaus\u2019 new album, &#8216;We Fucked A Flame Into Being&#8217;\u00a0(a direct quote from\u00a0<em>Lady Chatterley&#8217;s Lover<\/em>\u00a0by DH Lawrence), was <em>&#8220;too good to pass on!\u201d<\/em> declares\u00a0Devoldere. It is indeed a fitting title for an album where every song celebrates the inscrutability of encounters and pays tribute to the decadence and intensity that life can offer.<\/p>\n<p>Although\u00a0Maarten\u00a0Devoldere\u00a0has kept his\u00a0Warhaus\u00a0persona well under the radar, the rare glimpses offered up to this point have conjured up a darkly esoteric lyrical universe, fueled by desire and love, haunted by a hunger for the fleeting, yearning to express the unsayable; &#8216;We Fucked A Flame Into Being&#8217;<strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>probes such depths savagely.<\/p>\n<p>Illusion and disillusion may subtly interchange, but it is the lie that\u00a0Warhaus\u00a0most honours, sowing seeds of despair in an unstable world:\u00a0<em>&#8220;You want magic, count me in \/ You want Jesus, well I&#8217;m not him \/ You&#8217;re an angel or a whore \/ Tell me who you&#8217;re working for \/ Loving you isn&#8217;t easy you know \/ But it&#8217;s a motherfucker not to do so\u2026&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0Listen to\u00a0<em>I&#8217;m Not Him <\/em>via Soundcloud below.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F270470269&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&visual=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&color=8a8785\"><\/iframe>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI love contradictions,\u201d<\/em> asserts\u00a0Devoldere. <em>\u201cThey are musically very appealing to me: raw vs. fundamentally passionate, brutal vs. romantic, art vs. Kitsch, archaic vs. modern&#8221;<\/em>. The French sixties, a touch of exoticism, a careless apathy: Leonard Cohen and Serge Gainsbourg are never far away, as &#8216;We Fucked A Flame Into Being&#8217; cleverly coalesces fifty years of music history.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI&#8217;m at the end of my twenties now. With this record I close an important period,&#8221;<\/em> avers\u00a0Devoldere. <em>\u201cIt\u2019s an ode to love, to its excesses and elusiveness.
