{"id":23350,"date":"2016-09-09T18:00:32","date_gmt":"2016-09-09T22:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=23350"},"modified":"2016-09-07T20:41:24","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T00:41:24","slug":"toy-share-new-single-im-still-believing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=23350","title":{"rendered":"TOY share new single &#8216;I&#8217;m Still Believing&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TOY\u00a0have shared new track <em>I&#8217;m Still Believing<\/em>, the latest track lifted\u00a0from the forthcoming new album &#8216;Clear Shot,&#8217; due for release on\u00a0Friday,\u00a0October 28th\u00a0via\u00a0Heavenly Recordings.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F281467090&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&visual=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&color=838180\"><\/iframe>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Capturing the essence of the band&#8217;s penchant for multifaceted arrangements, chiming guitars skirted by elevating snyth are soon opened into more pop-tinged territory, during bright choruses framing frontman\u00a0Tom Dougall&#8217;s introspective narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Capped with a signature, elongated break pairing the striking and intricate guitars of Dougall and\u00a0Dominic O&#8217;Dair\u00a0and the ever-captivating bass of\u00a0Maxim Barron\u00a0\u2013 the song is a statement from a group still evolving, three records in and able to pull from a wealth of musicianship and experience.<\/p>\n<p>The album was recorded with producer\u00a0David Wrench\u00a0towards the end of 2015 at Eve Studio.<\/p>\n<p>The band have also recently unveiled <em>Fast Silver<\/em><strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>the first track to be taken from the album. The track premiered on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stagefrightpublicity.us9.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=9483419c321081821c0b1a040&amp;id=6ddffdd310&amp;e=0389613713\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\">Stereogum<\/a>, which described It as &#8220;deliriously delicious grunge-tinted acid-pop, loosely performed, yet impeccably assembled&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Splitting their time between Tom\u00a0Dougall and bassist\u00a0Maxim\u00a0Barron&#8217;s\u00a0place in New Cross and Dominic O&#8217;Dair&#8217;s flat in\u00a0Walthamstow, where they set up a makeshift studio and laid down the early album demos,\u00a0<em>Clear Shot<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>began to take shape in the first half of 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Taking inspiration from an esoteric blend \u2013\u00a0Radiophonic Workshop,\u00a0Comus, the scores of\u00a0Bernard\u00a0Herrmann,\u00a0John Barry\u00a0and\u00a0Ennio\u00a0Morricone Fairport,\u00a0COUM,\u00a0Acid House,\u00a0Incredible String Band,\u00a0The Langley Schools Project,\u00a0The Wicker Man\u00a0soundtrack and even the direction behind\u00a0<em>Electric\u00a0Eden<\/em>,\u00a0Rob Young&#8217;s book about the development of folk music in the U.K. \u2013 by the time they entered Eve Studios in Stockport in October 2015 with producer David Wrench, the band were clear about the direction the album should take.<\/p>\n<p>The result is their most coherent and confident album to date; lushly cinematic, shot through with their most expressive melodies thus far and coated with a &#8216;sheen&#8217; courtesy of\u00a0Chris\u00a0Coady\u00a0(Beach\u00a0House,\u00a0Smith\u00a0Westerns,\u00a0Yeah\u00a0Yeah\u00a0Yeahs), who mixed the album in\u00a0LA with some of the reverbs and vocal processors used on<em>\u00a0Purple Rain,<\/em>\u00a0across the 10-tracks strands of ideas appear, sink and re-emerge in an almost modal jazz manner.<em>\u00a0Clear Shot\u00a0<\/em>sees TOY\u00a0working both in bigger colours and more minutely crafted detail, achieving an altogether higher level of artistry than before.<\/p>\n<p>TOY previously released their self-titled debut in\u00a02012\u00a0and cemented their reputation as the best alternative rock band in the country with\u00a0Join the Dots\u00a0at the end of\u00a02013.
