Led by\u00a0Kiev-born singer\/guitarist Annabelle Lee and featuring\u00a0Jimmy Tony Rowlinson (Dilly Dally) on bass, Denholm Whale (Odonis Odonis) on drums, and Alejandro Cairncross on guitar, the band are newly signed to\u00a0Buzz Records, who will release their\u00a0EP,\u00a0&#8216;Rats In Paradise,&#8217; on October 14th. Take a listen to Magic Eye via Soundcloud below.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F283223588&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&visual=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&color=8a8482\"><\/iframe>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Building on her work in her previous project, Mexican Slang, Lee began conceptualizing\u00a0Peeling in the summer of 2015, writing the songs that would\u00a0make up their first EP before recruiting her bandmates and recording at Union Sound Company (Metz,\u00a0Fucked Up)\u00a0in December of that year.\u00a0Exploring themes of sexuality, death, consumerism,\u00a0religion, and mental illness, Lee describes the EP as being fundamentally about conquering fear. <em>&#8220;It&#8217;s about shedding past traumas, transcending pain and finding a way out&#8221;<\/em> she says. <em>&#8220;It&#8217;s too easy to become disillusioned, I\u00a0want to create catharsis and release.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Expanding on the bruising post-punk of\u00a0the EP&#8217;s first single,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/2016\/08\/30\/peeling-premiere-debut-single-leisure-life-announce-tour-dates\/\" target=\"_blank\">Leisure Life<\/a><\/em>, which premiered earlier this month on Noisey, <em>Magic Eye<\/em> builds around a slinking bass line and Lee&#8217;s drawling vocal, crescendoing in a gauzy haze of intertwining fuzzed out lead guitar, recalling acts like Swell Maps, Royal Trux, and 13th Floor Elevators, and directly influenced, as Lee tells FADER, by the work of The Birthday Party guitarist, Rowland S. Howard.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;&#8216;Magic Eye&#8217;\u00a0is about sex positivity, feeling lusty and getting it on,&#8221;<\/em> says Lee.\u00a0<em>&#8220;I was listening to a lot of Rowland S. Howard and old Japanese psych when I came up with the bass line, inspired by their super dark and sultry tones. Writing the rest of the song was just building over that repetitive groove until it climaxes at the end.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Rats In Paradise&#8217; will be out via\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hivemindpr.us10.list-manage1.com\/track\/click?u=04780c244c226dd8f0096243b&amp;id=e28774868c&amp;e=998dd35436\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer\">Buzz Records<\/a>\u00a0on October 14th.
