Featuring members of TOPS, Dilly Dally and Odonis Odonis, the track is a\u00a0brooding down tempo dream pop song\u00a0constructed around guitarist and singer Annabelle Lee&#8217;s winding guitar leads\u00a0and layered vocals.\u00a0With it&#8217;s atmospheric\u00a0guitar sounds it\u00a0establishes the EP&#8217;s haunting tone, and according the Lee concerns the process of shedding the bad relationships and toxic influences that undermine you. I wrote this song about feeling trapped in bad relationships, when people are sucking up your energy. It&#8217;s a reminder to remove negative influences and ditch the emotional vampires who leave you feeling drained.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>More about Peeling?<\/strong> Building on her work in her previous project, Mexican Slang, Lee began conceptualizing\u00a0Peeling in the summer of 2015, writing the songs that would\u00a0make up their first EP before recruiting her bandmates and recording at Union Sound Company (Metz,\u00a0Fucked Up)\u00a0in December of that year.\u00a0&#8216;7 Years of Blood,&#8217; is a sequel of sorts to the first EP, with the songs composed shortly after the tracking of &#8216;Rats In Paradise,&#8217; as the band that Lee had essentially formed for the recordings began to take shape, and completed in early 2017 following a series of tour dates in the fall of last year with\u00a0Preoccupations,\u00a0Death Valley Girls\u00a0and\u00a0Muuy Biien\u00a0after the band had coalesced\u00a0into a formidable unit.<\/p>\n<p>The EP builds on the sound of the band&#8217;s earlier release, further exploring the layered guitar textures and Lee&#8217;s bruising and often confrontational songwriting style, focusing\u00a0thematically on the struggle to assert your individual agency and power.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;If you add up the average time a woman spends on her period during her life, it&#8217;s like 7 straight years,&#8221;<\/em> Lee says of the EP&#8217;s title\u00a0<em>&#8220;That&#8217;s an annoying thought, but also pretty powerful.
