{"id":25116,"date":"2017-04-14T15:45:56","date_gmt":"2017-04-14T19:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=25116"},"modified":"2017-05-27T21:35:35","modified_gmt":"2017-05-28T01:35:35","slug":"smidley-announce-self-titled-debut-album","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cultureaddicts.com\/?p=25116","title":{"rendered":"Smidley announce self-titled debut album"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-25117\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cultureaddicts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/SmidleyDog1.jpg?resize=704%2C880\" alt=\"Smidley\" width=\"704\" height=\"880\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cultureaddicts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/SmidleyDog1.jpg?w=704&amp;ssl=1 704w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cultureaddicts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/SmidleyDog1.jpg?resize=240%2C300&amp;ssl=1 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 704px) 100vw, 704px\" \/>Triple Crown Records\u00a0has\u00a0announced the self-titled debut album from Smidley, a new project from Foxing singer Conor Murphy out June 2nd in the UK and available for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/prescriptionpr.cmail20.com\/t\/j-l-utudvk-ejlihlkhu-t\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pre-order now<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Named after Murphy\u2019s beloved black lab mutt, Smidley\u2019s debut features many of Murphy\u2019s good friends including Cameron Boucher (Sorority Noise), Eric Slick (Dr Dog, Lithuania), and Ben Walsh (Tigers Jaw) among others.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Murphy gave the world a first listen to the new endeavor with\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/prescriptionpr.cmail20.com\/t\/j-l-utudvk-ejlihlkhu-i\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">No One Likes You<\/a><\/em>, described by Stereogum as a <em>&#8220;synth-damaged\u00a0indie-pop jam.\u201d<\/em> To\u00a0coincide with the album announcement for Smidley, they also shared the Dylan Schnitker directed music video from\u00a0<em>Fuck This<\/em> via YouTube below.\u00a0\u00a0It&#8217;s set at one of the most absurd crazy\u00a0radical house parties one might hope to attend.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w6HI7JJHHEs?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-CA&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Smidley&#8217; was produced by Hop Along\u2019s Joe Reinhart and recorded in Philadelphia at Headroom studios earlier this year, an experience Murphy describes as carefree, and a solid reminder of why he\u2019s dedicated his life to the artform. \u201cIt was the greatest time I&#8217;ve ever had making, recording or playing music in my life,\u201d says Murphy. \u201cI tried to eliminate any expectations for this record and focused entirely on having a good time with it.\u201d It was a needed break from the more serious and deliberate songwriting of Foxing, and a particularly grueling tour that left Murphy desiring a reprieve from more lofty endeavors.<\/p>\n<p>The new project finds strength in the playful and unguarded approach Murphy took in both writing and recording as a result. <em>\u201cMy favorite song is \u2018No One Likes You\u2019\u201d<\/em> he relates.<em> \u201cIt&#8217;s a joke but one of the more honest songs to me. I talk to myself in the car all the time and feel like a lunatic.
